Jiu Jitsu is notoriously unfriendly to beginners

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is an highly teachable martial art, but most schools have no plan for new students. This results in weeks or months of chaos and confusion.

We solve this with a program designed to teach you the core concepts, goals, and techniques that you’ll be using for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I complete the course?

You’ll be invited to train in the all-levels course, which is open to . . . all levels. In this class, we’ll cover more positions, submissions, and have monthly theme.

Do we do sparring in this course?

No, we don’t do full contact sparring in Foundations. Instead, we end each class with a set of focused games that allow us to safely experience the theme of the class against an actively resisting opponent.

Is this a self defense course?

Yes and no. The premise of the course is fighting against a larger, more athletic, but untrained opponent. These opponents have different behaviors and reactions, but can be very challenging and dangerous nonetheless. We’ll teach solid fundamentals that you can use for self defense, but most of them will transfer to recreational jiu-jitsu.

I have experience in martial arts.

If you have trained in Brazilian Jiu jitsu and are a one stripe white belt or higher, you can start straight out in our all-levels. You can also take the Foundations course if you just want a refresher.

Do I have to attend every class?

Realistically, even dedicated students will likely miss a class. It happens. We have video recaps exactly for this purpose. As long as you come to the majority, you’re good!
