FIVE WEEK ADULT BEGINNER COURSE | MURFREESBORO, TN
Why We’re Different
More Structure
People learn better when things are organized. At Beacon we take the chaos of Brazilian jiu jitsu and have turn it into a real system. We use belt requirements, concepts based learning, and use games to help people learn while doing.

A Better Culture
We’re rejecting the “kill or be killed” vibe of many modern BJJ gyms. We believe that everyone can enjoy martial arts, even if they’re not in their physical prime. Beacon mats are filled with everyday people who want to have fun, meet friends, and not be limping to their car after class.
🟢 We don’t get injured because we don’t glorify pushing our students to the limit or putting them in situations they can’t handle.
🟢 We teach safe techniques that rely on technique and skill rather than athleticism and power
🟢 No masters, no politics, no weird stuff. We play music, we crack jokes, and we don’t take it too seriously!

Students Love the Foundations Course (and they are still with us!)
❞
I began at Beacon in the Foundations program with my husband and found that I completed the 5 week course with a solid grasp of the basic principles of Jiu Jitsu that I could continue to build on. I really appreciate the systematic approach to instruction and the intentionality of the instructors to making jiu jitsu approachable to anyone looking to learn regardless of age, experience, and fitness level.

❞
If you weren’t sure you could ever do something like Jiu Jitsu, trust me, you can at this place. Even as a brand new Jiu Jitsu-er and a non-athletic person, I felt like I belonged right in the beginning. The community these people have built is like none other and I have never felt more confident. The coaches are all very encouraging and patient and just genuinely amazing to work with! Try them out, you won’t regret it!

❞
I highly recommend Beacon Jiu Jitsu. As a women, the smaller class sizes create a more personal and comfortable learning environment, and every coach is kind, patient, and willing to answer questions. They make it easy to learn without feeling pressured or embarrassed. The calm, welcoming energy of the gym makes it a place I genuinely enjoy being.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens after I complete the course?
You’ll be invited to train in the all-levels course, which is open to . . . all levels. In this class, we’ll cover more positions, submissions, and have monthly theme.
Do we do sparring in this course?
No, we don’t do full contact sparring in Foundations. Instead, we end each class with a set of focused games that allow us to safely experience the theme of the class against an actively resisting opponent.
Is this a self defense course?
Yes and no. The premise of the course is fighting against a larger, more athletic, but untrained opponent. These opponents have different behaviors and reactions, but can be very challenging and dangerous nonetheless. We’ll teach solid fundamentals that you can use for self defense, but most of them will transfer to recreational jiu-jitsu.
I have experience in martial arts.
If you have trained in Brazilian Jiu jitsu and are a one stripe white belt or higher, you can start straight out in our all-levels. You can also take the Foundations course if you just want a refresher.
Do I have to attend every class?
Realistically, even dedicated students will likely miss a class. It happens. We have video recaps exactly for this purpose. As long as you come to the majority, you’re good!
